Vinings (30339) is an historic unincorporated community in Cobb County, just west of the Chattahoochee River from Atlanta. A ferry operator named Hardy Pace ran his ferry across the river here around 1830. This was along the main east-west road that ran north of Atlanta. Vinings was named for William H. Vinings, a railroad construction worker who built tracks and a bridge in the area. Hardy Pace’s home was used as a hospital for the Union Army during the Civil War but was destroyed in the process. Vinings’ location on the railroad line from Atlanta encouraged its growth after the war. It was officially recognized as a community in 1904.
Vinings is now a suburban neighborhood separate from Atlanta but within easy access of all the city has to offer. Georgia Places named Vinings one of the seven most desirable neighborhoods in the metro Atlanta area in 2014. The river provides residents with fishing and hiking opportunities, while being close to shopping areas like the Cobb Galleria and Cumberland Mall. Vinings Mountain is a prominent feature of the landscape which sets the tone for the neighborhood, featuring picturesque hills and trees.
