Pine Hills (30324, 30329) is a Buckhead area neighborhood in the northeast section of Atlanta. The western and central parts are in the City of Atlanta with the smaller eastern part crossing into the City of Brookhaven. The Creek Indians lived in the surrounding area until the early 1800s. One of the early European settlers opened a sawmill on Peachtree Creek between 1857 and 1865. The area was a quiet farming community until the early 1900s, when Atlantans began moving out of the city into what was then considered country estates. Most of the homes were built after World War II.
Pine Hills features a mix of old and new homes, which residents like, saying it adds vibrancy to the neighborhood. Several small streams cross the area and feed into larger waters such as Indian Creek and Peachtree Creek. The area is very hilly and features winding roads and abundant tall trees, such as pine, oak and maple. The abundance of plant life provides shelter for many small animals and birds. Lenox Square shopping mall is on the northwest corner of the neighborhood, providing an amazing array of stores, restaurants and shops.
